How to Adjust a Door Hinge

Geek Level 1

Is your exterior door rubbing on the sill or jamb?

Adjusting a door hinge isn’t difficult, and you shouldn’t have to waste your money on getting someone to come and do it for you.

Adjusting the door hinge

Using a Robertson screwdriver, double-check all the screws to make sure they are properly tightened. You will notice that one screw looks a little different. This one is a little longer than the rest and actually secures the hinge through the door frame and into the wall stud.

When tightening or loosening this screw, you should see the hinge pull. This is how you adjust the door into the desired position to prevent it from rubbing on the sill or jamb.
