The Position:

As the Health & Safety Manager at Centra, you will play a critical role in fostering a robust and proactive safety culture throughout our locations in British Columbia and Alberta. Your primary focus will be to lead and develop comprehensive safety programs and practices, instilling a shared commitment to safety excellence at all levels of the organization. Collaborating closely with Operations leaders, you will champion the implementation of safety initiatives, oversee a team of safety officers, and provide continuous education to ensure Centra stays ahead of legislative changes and industry best practices.

Your unwavering dedication to safety will drive our efforts to achieve and maintain regulatory compliance, forge strong partnerships, and nurture a culture of continuous safety improvement. Your leadership and expertise will be instrumental in safeguarding the well-being of our employees, creating a secure work environment across diverse construction sites and state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities.

Core Accountabilities:

  • Devise and execute safety communication strategies for effective information sharing across the organization.
  • Organize routine safety meetings, toolbox talks, and training sessions to reinforce safe practices and address concerns.
  • Create and manage safety metrics and indicators to monitor performance, delivering regular reports to leadership.
  • Design and provide targeted safety training for high-risk tasks, including heights, confined spaces, and heavy equipment operation.
  • Assess the training programs through evaluations and feedback, making improvements for better results.
  • Manage safety certifications and licenses for job roles to meet regulatory standards.
  • Keep updated on the latest training methods and technologies to enhance safety training delivery.
  • Create and conduct targeted safety training for high-risk tasks like working at heights, confined spaces, and heavy equipment operation.
  • Assess training effectiveness through evaluations, practical tests, and feedback, making improvements as needed for better results.
  • Coordinate and facilitate safety certifications and licenses for specific job roles to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Stay updated on the latest training methods, technologies, and resources to continuously enhance safety training delivery.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections across construction sites and manufacturing facilities, identifying potential hazards, non-compliance, and areas for improvement.
  • Provide guidance and support to safety officers, conducting regular meetings, sharing best practices, and fostering their professional development to create a team of safety partners.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience as a Safety Manager in the construction industry
  • NCSO designation an asset
  • Passionate about education & training
  • Specialty training and certifications are highly valued
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license
  • Ability to travel to other Centra locations in BC and Alberta as needed
