Inside Centra Windows’ Calgary Manufacturing Plant

Centra is known for our high-performance windows and doors, but where are they made? In 2022, Supreme Windows of Calgary became part of the Centra Family, massively bolstering our production capacity. We spoke to Production Manager and Window Geek Jimmy Thiessen about this impressive space and the advantages it provides Centra and our customers.

Centra Windows already had a state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in BC, but our expansion into Calgary has greatly improved both our capacity and capabilities. This 100,000 ft² facility provides a considerable amount of space for growth and future expansion, and unlike many plants, it was designed with window and door manufacturing in mind. This allows the team to make our windows and doors and get them shipped out to our customers as efficiently as possible.

Another major differentiator of our Calgary plant is that it has given Centra its own glass line. While we still work with great partners such as Cardinal Glass Industries, we now have the ability to make our own sealed units. While having a glass line comes with a lot of extra certification and audits, the upsides are enormous. A great example of this is the supply chain issues experienced by the entire industry (and many others) as a result of COVID-19. Having an in-house glass line will help safeguard against other industry shocks in the future and puts Centra in a very strong position as the company grows.

Our Calgary manufacturing facility brought with it another big benefit: the expansion of our product line. The most notable example is the addition of our Supreme Collection. These revolutionary hybrid windows combine the thermal performance and efficiency of vinyl with the durability of aluminum. This makes them perfect for places that experience heavy hail such as Alberta, as well as offering a great, long-lasting black-framed option for areas with hot summers.
