Best Windows for Keeping Heat in During WinterComfort Energy Savings
Multi-Chamber Window Frames: Crucial for Thermal ComfortCentra spent the morning with CTV Calgary at one of our installation sites, talking through an active window replacement project and a program that's been getting a lot of attention from Alberta homeowners lately: the Window Efficiency Plan. With winter not far off, funding allocation has already passed the 75% mark.
For anyone who missed it, the Window Efficiency Plan is a $1 million commitment from Centra Install Pros, set up specifically to help Alberta homeowners bring down the cost of replacing their windows and doors. We launched it earlier this year, and the response has been strong enough that three-quarters of that funding is already spoken for.
Rebate and financing support for window replacement has become harder to find in Alberta over the past couple of years. Programs that used to help offset the cost of upgrades have been scaled back or disappeared altogether, leaving a lot of homeowners without much in the way of financial support when their windows start failing.
That's the problem the Window Efficiency Plan was designed to solve. Qualifying homeowners can receive up to $650 per window or door, and the process is a lot simpler than old rebate programs – no home energy audit, no narrow list of approved products, no complicated paperwork. You book a consultation, find out what you qualify for, and the savings get applied straight to your project.
A million dollars sounds substantial until you factor in how many homes across Alberta are overdue for new windows. Enough funding was built in for a strong year of demand, but Calgary and the surrounding area have responded faster than projected. The program runs first-come, first-served, and there's no guarantee of a second round once this one ends.
That urgency is why Centra and CTV teamed up to talk about the program now. A lot of Calgary homeowners have been planning to look into window replacement at some point, and at the current pace, "at some point" might mean missing the funding altogether.
Alberta winters are hard on windows – especially those that are old and underperforming. Aging or poorly sealed windows let in cold air, create those chilly spots near exterior walls, and tend to build up condensation that can lead to ice or mould if it goes unaddressed. A proper upgrade before the cold really sets in makes a noticeable difference, both in comfort and in what shows up on the energy bill through January and February.
High-performance windows also help with noise from traffic or busy streets, and they tend to refresh the whole look of a home, inside and out, which matters if resale value is part of the equation down the line.
Because Centra manufactures its windows and doors right here in Calgary and installs them with our own crews rather than subcontracting the work out, every project is backed by a 30-year warranty covering the frame, glass, installation, and even any labour costs if they ever arise down the line. It's fully transferable too, so it stays with the home if you sell.
One of the things we wanted to show on camera at the installation site is how straightforward the process is for the homeowner. There's no separate company for manufacturing and another for installation – it’s the same team from your first consultation through to the final walkthrough. And because the Window Efficiency Plan savings are applied directly rather than reimbursed after the fact, there's no rebate paperwork to chase down once the job is finished.
If your windows have been drafty, your heating bill keeps climbing, or you've just been putting off a replacement you know is coming, this is a good window to get it done while there's still funding available to help cover the cost.
The Window Efficiency Plan is open, but at the current pace it won't be for much longer. Book a free consultation to find out what you qualify for while there’s still funding available.
