Window Efficiency Plan Funding 75% Claimed: What Vancouver Homeowners Need to Know

Energy Savings In The News

Centra spoke to CTV Vancouver at one of our active installation sites, walking through a window replacement project while talking about something that's become a pretty urgent topic for BC homeowners: the Window Efficiency Plan, and how much of that funding is already gone.

If you haven't heard, here's the short version: Centra Install Pros set aside $1 million specifically to help BC homeowners cut the cost of replacing their windows and doors. It launched earlier in 2026, and thanks to high demand, funding is now more than 75% claimed. With that in mind, a lot of people who'd normally wait until spring to think about window replacement should probably be having that conversation now instead.

Why We Built This Plan in the First Place

Government rebates for window replacement have gotten harder to access across BC over the past couple of years, and in the City of Vancouver specifically, there's currently no rebate program available at all. For residents of Vancouver proper, that's left a real gap. A full window replacement project is a big investment in your home, and without any outside support, a lot of people end up putting it off even when their current windows are actively costing them money through drafts and heat loss.

That's why the Window Efficiency Plan was developed. Homeowners can get up to $650 per window or door, and unlike a lot of the government programs it's replacing, there's no energy audit requirement and no narrow list of approved products to work around. You book a consultation, you find out what you qualify for, and the savings get applied to your project. It’s designed to be straightforward.

Why the Funding Is Moving Faster Than Expected

$1 million sounds like a lot until you consider how many homes across BC need this kind of work. We'd anticipated steady interest when we launched the plan, but the response from homeowners has outpaced what we projected, and funding is allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Once it's fully claimed, there's no guarantee of a second round.

That's part of why we wanted to flag this with CTV specifically. A lot of homeowners who've been meaning to get quotes or look into their options haven't done it yet, and at this point, waiting even another month or two could mean missing the funding entirely.

What New Windows Actually Change

Beyond the financial aspect, it's worth talking about what a window upgrade actually does for a home, especially somewhere like Vancouver where humidity and older housing stock create their own set of problems.

Newer, properly sealed windows cut down on drafts and cold spots, which makes a noticeable difference in how a house feels day to day. They also help manage the condensation and moisture buildup that older single-pane or poorly sealed windows tend to struggle with – something that matters a lot given how often that moisture turns into mould if it's left unaddressed. On top of that, homeowners near busier streets tend to notice a real drop in outside noise once they've upgraded to insulated, high-performance glass.

And because Centra manufactures and installs its own windows and doors rather than outsourcing, every project is backed by a 30-year warranty covering the frame, glass, installation, and even any service costs – fully transferable if you sell your home down the line. That's not something a lot of other companies in this space can offer, and it's one of the reasons homeowners tend to trust the process once they get into it.

What the Process Actually Looks Like

With Centra, window replacement isn't a complicated process from the homeowner's point of view. You deal with one company from start to finish, since Centra handles manufacturing, consultation, and installation in-house rather than bringing in subcontractors partway through. There's no separate approval process for the Window Efficiency Plan savings either – they get applied directly once you qualify at the consultation stage, rather than requiring a submission after the fact similar to rebates.

If You've Been Thinking About New Windows, Now's the Time

If your windows have been drafty for a while, or you've noticed condensation building up between panes, or you're just tired of the heating bill every winter, this is a reasonable window (no pun intended) to actually do something about it, while there's still support available to offset the cost.

Funding for the Window Efficiency Plan is still open, but it won't be for much longer at this pace. Book a free consultation to find out what you qualify for before the funding runs out.
