CTV Visits the Centra Cares Home Renovation Family

2024’s Centra Cares Home Renovation Contest was a huge success, with another deserving family receiving the life-changing gift of high-performance, energy-efficient windows. This year’s winners, the Trottiers, felt the difference immediately! A few days after the install, CTV headed to the home to check in with them.

Every year, Centra Cares and Centra Windows run our Home Renovation Contest, where we manufacture, supply, and install brand-new windows for a deserving family. We receive hundreds of nominations – which can be heartbreaking to work through – and whittle them down until we have our eventual winner.

For 2024, our winners were Tanya Trottier and her family from Delta. They’ve faced a lot over the last few years, with the loss of John, Tanya’s husband and father to her two daughters, as well as other hardships. Tanya was nominated by her caring sister-in-law, Lynn, who told their story and put their case forward beautifully – and made it very clear just how badly their windows needed replacing. The Centra team were in no doubt that the Trottiers were worthy of the win.

The Trottiers’ windows were in a dire state, especially the wood frame ones in Tanya’s room. The frames had rotted over time, with Tanya remarking upon Centra’s first visit to her home that it must have been prayer that was holding them in place. The other windows weren’t much better, causing plenty of problems for the family, ranging from excessive neighbourhood noise to high energy bills. There was also a poorly performing patio door that had been installed backwards and would often lock Tanya outside.

Centra Cares and Centra Windows replaced all the home’s windows, exterior doors, and the patio door. Our high-performance products, made in-house and locally, are a world apart. CTV visited the Trottier home for an update just a few days after install, and Tanya and her daughters were already experiencing fantastic results!

The boost to their home’s efficiency is obvious, especially at a time when temperatures have been unseasonably volatile. Installation day was cold and rainy but it was a much warmer day when we checked in, and they had already felt a big improvement in the temperature. They’ll see the same in winter, which is why new windows are so good at bringing down energy bills all year round. Tanya’s room would often get cold in the evening even in summertime due to the extreme frame degradation. Now she doesn’t have to dread going to bed, and she has more peace and quiet to boot. She estimates that outdoor noise, which was a major issue due to the home’s proximity to a flight path and a port, has been lessened by 80%. The Trottiers finally get to experience home comfort, and they couldn’t be happier.
