Steps to measuring a window

The measurement process outlined below is only to help you determine window sizes for pricing estimates. Our experts will come by to complete a professional measure to ensure accuracy before your products are made.

1

Always measure the window WIDTH before the HEIGHT. This is also how measurements will be entered into our visualizer for quoting purposes.

2

To find out a window’s width, measure horizontally from the edge of one drywall to another across the window.

3

To determine height, measure from the top drywall down to the window sill. For patio doors, measure the height from the ground up to where the frame ends.

Tip!

When configuring your windows, remember that it will always be viewed as if from the outside of your home.

What to Expect During Re-measure

Once you have your quote and you’ve secured your new high-performance windows, one of our friendly service will be out to confirm measurements and make sure everything is spot-on. It’s not that we don’t trust you! You know the saying measure twice and cut once? It’s an ethos we live by. We just want everything to be perfect for you! Here’s what you can expect on that visit:

1

One of our professional service technicians will visit your home at a time that is convenient for you to determine the exact measurements required for your new custom windows.

2

They will introduce themselves and give you a quick overview of the process. You’ll already be an expert after reading this!

3

Our technician will do a walkthrough of your home and measure the windows, and will then verify the window dimensions, configurations, and the directions of the openings are correct. If anything has changed, they will review this with you and update your order before windows production begins.

4

While they are measuring, they will also review your chosen method of installation. Method is based upon a variety of factors such as siding type. If the method chosen does not match the profile of your home, they can discuss the best and most efficient options for you.

5

The technician will verify that all windows ordered follow the requirements of the BC Building Code, such as egress/fire escape issues, special locations requiring safety glass, and so on.

6

Once your re-measure is complete, they will determine how many installers will be required and how long the installation will take, and will facilitate booking a start date.

7

Lastly, our technician will prepare you by letting you know what may need to be done prior to installation, such as moving furniture, blinds, and ensuring the safety of any pets.

P.S.

On your remeasure date, prior to your technician’s arrival please have your blinds open and access to the windows available. Don’t worry – your furniture doesn’t need to be removed, we just need enough room to be able to reach and measure the windows.

And we’re done! Wasn’t our service technician lovely? They will also be one of our window installers, so you may be seeing them again soon!
