Right Here in Edmonton: The Brodziak Family

Some of our most meaningful Centra Cares work has happened locally, right here in Edmonton. Last year, in addition to our main full-home charity renovation, our team had the chance to support the Brodziak family with a project that shows just how far-reaching this initiative can be.

While on a neighbourhood walk with his infant son Ozzy and their dog, Ryan Brodziak was hit by a car, leaving him with a significant spinal cord injury. Ozzy has since recovered, but the road forward for Ryan and his family has been a difficult one.

One of the biggest everyday barriers turned out to be something most homeowners never think twice about: access. Ryan needed a way to safely and easily enter and exit his garage and use an accessible vehicle. Our team designed, manufactured, and installed a brand-new accessible door, converting a garage window into a functional entry point.

With this new access point, Ryan can now:

• Safely use his accessible vehicle for appointments and physiotherapy
• Move in and out of his home with greater ease
• Regain a level of independence during his recovery

It's the kind of upgrade that speaks to quality of life, not just aesthetics or resale value – and it's a great example of why Edmonton is such an important community for us.
