Centra is proud to have brought the 2026 Centra Cares Home Renovation Contest to CTV Vancouver's airwaves this week, giving BC viewers a firsthand look at how a simple nomination can turn into a life-changing renovation.

A Local Story: Moira & James Kelly

No story captures what this contest is really about quite like Moira Kelly's. A Lower Mainland resident, Moira is a single parent and full-time caregiver to her 40-year-old son James, who lives with Angelman Syndrome. She was nominated for our contest three years running before finally being selected as our 2025 winner – a reminder to everyone watching that a nomination is never wasted, even if it doesn't win right away.

Before her renovation, Moira's home showed the wear of years spent putting James first and everything else second. Window locks had been replaced with makeshift wooden sticks just to feel secure. Ice covered their glass every winter. And when pollen or wildfire smoke rolled through the region, the aging windows offered little protection – a real danger for James, who deals with severe eye infections. Through it all, Moira kept finding small ways to make life good for her son, from car rides to their regular Dairy Queen stops.

It took four friends nominating Moira on her behalf, but their persistence paid off. Moira and James now have brand new, high-performance Centra windows and doors, and a home that finally offers the warmth, air quality, and security they'd gone without for so long.
