Window Geeks
Geek Level 1
In case you couldn’t tell, we think windows are pretty darn great. We live and breathe windows, so we know exactly how beneficial good ones can be. That’s why the Window Geeks have put together this wishlist, showing what homeowners should be on the lookout for when it comes to their own window renovation projects.
Keep these points in mind in the early stages of your project and think about how they apply in the context of your home. You can’t go wrong with the Window Geeks' advice!
Thermal performance should be top of mind, and getting it right isn’t always as straightforward as you might think. It’s best to the orientation of the home into consideration when choosing windows, as well as existing shading features such as trees and structural overhangs. Once you have an understanding of these key elements and where the sun rises and sets on the property, you can choose a glazing package that optimizes the window performance systems, paying attention to the U-value and SHGC to avoid overheating in areas with high sun exposure.
We’re in BC. It gets wet here, and when the wind does pick up it becomes a very bad combination. The last thing you want is a window that leaks! Thankfully, the potential for bad weather doesn’t mean you have to batten down the hatches. Centra’s own casement and awning windows open nice and wide to catch a breeze in summer, but easily withstand the elements when closed thanks to their triple weather seal.
Where to begin? Windows don’t always have to follow the same formula. They’re an important element of your exterior and really help tie the design of a home together. Thankfully, there are plenty of options, configurations, and colours to choose from.
Have you ever been unlucky enough to be in a house with single-pane windows? Unless you live in the middle of nowhere, you may as well have no windows at all when it comes to cutting out the noise. Modern double-pane windows are a blessing in that sense and are great at reducing sound, especially if you live in the city or by a busy road. It’s now much easier to enjoy peace and tranquillity in your home.
A good view calls for a great window! Framing a view properly can do wonders for a room, create a focal point, and elevate a home. If there is a view (or views!) you want to make the most of, it’s best to avoid extra features like grids which can obstruct and detract from it. Go a step further by using a picture window which can have wholly uninterrupted panes of glass.
So there you have it! Five big benefits that you should always consider when the time rolls around for your renovation project. We hope this has helped you understand the wonders of windows!
