Centra Cares
Geek Level 1
Centra Cares is proud to announce that we’ve passed some major milestones in 2023 and, as we’ve done for many years now, provided lots of support to those in our beloved communities.
Each year, Centra Windows’ Employee Owners nominate causes close to their hearts. Then, through our charitable foundation Centra Cares, we support these causes through donations of money, time, and products. We’re very happy to say that 2023 has been our best yet, with lots of exciting initiatives and some very impressive numbers: we’ve now raised over $1.75 million dollars for over 250 charities in BC, Alberta, and beyond!
A Very Special Home Renovation
Centra Windows and Centra Cares have undertaken many charity home renovations in the past, but none have been quite as significant as this one. For our first-ever Alberta home renovation, we provided an entire home’s worth of windows and patio doors to a family whose son, Jake, suffers from an incredibly rare genetic condition. This condition means Jake cannot be exposed to UV light, as his body cannot repair the damage. With the help of our fantastic partners, we made and installed windows that will keep him safe at home, meaning he can finally enjoy his space safely.
A Second Gift of Windows
Not long after our first Alberta home renovation, we undertook our second, this time in the town of Stettler. This time, we donated a whole home’s worth of high-performance windows to the Jorgan family, whose eldest son is battling leukemia. The family recently moved town to be closer to the hospital where he is undergoing his treatment plan, and many issues arose after purchase, including the windows being so rotted that they were unable to open. Centra Windows and Centra Cares happily donated both the products and install services, and now the family can be comfortable in their new home while their son undergoes his treatment.
Our Most Successful Golf Tournament Yet & Supporting Mental Health
Each year we host our Centra Cares Annual Charity Golf Tournament. 2023 was our 28th, and it saw us raise more than we ever have before. Thanks to many generous donations, we raised $110,000 for the Canadian Mental Health Associations of BC and Alberta – a terrific amount that Centra Windows then matched to donate to a number of other charities throughout the year! We recently visited the CMHA offices with CTV – learn more about our visit in this blog.
Tour De Cure
With our Employee Owners nominating causes close to their hearts, the fight against cancer is one that comes up often – it’s something that all of us have dealt with in some way. That’s why we found the decision to support Team CTV’s Tour De Cure efforts such an easy one. The tour sees riders head all the way from Cloverdale to Hope to raise funds for the BC Cancer Foundation. Check out the Tour de Cure website to learn more!
Calgary’s Toy Mountain
Centra Cares is fairly new to Calgary, but the staff who worked at Supreme Windows are now members of the Centra Family and have their own opportunities to nominate important causes and get involved in charitable giving. That’s exactly what’s happened this holiday season, with Centra Cares becoming a major sponsor and supporter of Toy Mountain, which raises donations for Fear is Not Love – formerly known as the Calgary Women’s Shelter.
Easter Seals Drop Zone
Every year our fearless Employee Owners take part in the Easter Seasl Drop Zone – abseiling down the side of a skyscraper in order to raise funds for children with disabilities. In 2023, our team of superheroes repelled down the side of one of Victoria’s tallest buildings, raising over $19,000 in the process! Thank you to the team and all their generous sponsors.
Global’s Month of Giving
This is another initiative that Centra Cares is proud to support each year. In partnership with Global, we donate $500 every day through December in the run-up to Christmas Day to a different charity.
Learn more about the fantastic causes we sponsored over the 2023 Holiday Season:
First Nations Education Foundation
Lumara Grief and Bereavement Society
Fraser River Sturgeon Conservation Society
Stal ́əẃ Arts & Culture Society
Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau (Xmas Wish)
Umoja Compassionate Care Society
Access Pro Bono Society of British Columbia
Sole Food (Cultivate Canada Society)
Centra Cares also donates $500 a day to different charities in December for our Centra Cares 12 Days of Giving! This year’s recipients have included the BC Children’s Hospital, the Canucks Autism Network, and Power to Be.
Support for Causes through the Year
In addition to our larger initiatives, there are plenty of other causes that come to our attention. In 2023, this has included providing donations to Rainbow Refugee, West Coast Kids Cancer Foundation, the Small Dog Rescue Society of BC, and Calgary Outlink. Teams from Centra also help feed the homeless every month with Nightshift ministries, which we’ve been involved in for a long time.
Phew! What a year. Here’s to an even more successful 2024!
